Alvin and the Chipmunks is coming to DVD this Tuesday April 1st. I can’t wait. I think this is one children’s movie we will have to add to our home movie library. We saw this at the theatre and it was laugh out loud funny!
I was a little skeptical that they could create a modern day Alvin and the Chipmunks that was as good as the original. It was good in a different way. It was enough like the original to bring back some fun childhood memories, but they did a great job of modernizing the chipmunks.
The Alvin and the Chipmunks movie has David Seville as a struggling song writer. He accidentally brings the chipmunks home in a basket. After discovering they can talk (and sing) he tries to market their talent. The Chipmunks find success, but when their pushed too hard by record exec Ian Hawke, David tries to slow them down and finds himself cut out of the picture.
Speed Racer a new semi animated film from Warner Brothers and the makers of the Matrix trilogy, premieres in theaters May 9th. Speed Racer’s based on the 1960’s Japanese comic by the same name. The movie stars Emile Hirsch as Speed, and Christina Ricci as Trixie, Matthew Fox as Racer X, and Susan Sarandon as Mom Racer.
Horton Hears a Who is still going strong at the box office. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth the effort. Horton is laugh out loud funny. We saw it opening weekend and my son loved it. In fact we may go see it again this week while he’s off on spring break. If you’re looking for a fun family movie Horton Hears a Who hits the spot in my opinion.
I liked this adaptation of Dr. Seuss much better than the previous attempts. I think the animation was very well done, and worked much better than using live characters. The characters could have been a little more “Seussy.” I’m not sure they completely captured the whimsical nature of the Dr. Seuss books, but the characters were loveable, and they included many of the rhymes from the original story.
Still not sure if you want to spring for the tickets? Check out the trailer:
